Dinesh Goyal, with a Master’s and Ph.D. from the Indian Agricultural Research Institute (IARI), New Delhi (1990), specializes in microbiology and biotechnology. Over 35 years, he has excelled in academia, research, and entrepreneurship at institutions including the University of Delhi, Thapar Centre for Industrial Research, and Thapar Institute of Engineering and Technology (Deemed to be University), Patiala.

He did Post-Doctoral Research at the Department of Bioengineering, Tokyo Institute of Technology, Japan (1993-1995) and a 2-week training program on Technology Entrepreneurship and Education at Walter A. Haas Business School, University of California, Berkeley (2007).

He has worked on more than twenty-six research and development and technology demonstration projects sponsored by Govt. funding agencies (DST, DBT, ICAR, CSIR, NBARD) and industries, has published more than 125 articles, three patents, edited one book, 14 book chapters, guided the research work of more than 23 Ph.D. students 80 M.Sc and M-Tech. students and mentoring several startups.

He organized several training programs, workshops, and national and international conferences and served as an expert member (2006-08) of the National Board of Accreditation (NBA), the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) for accreditation of the B.Tech Biotechnology and Biomedical Engineering program.

​

He is the recipient of the Japanese Govt (Mombusho) Scholarship (1993-95) from MHRD, Govt. of India, and a Fellow of the International Congress of Chemistry and Environment (2009), Association of Biotechnology and Pharmacy (2010), Association of Microbiologists of India (2012) and Institute of Water and Environment (2014).

Major Contributions

Development of protocols for mass cultivation of microalgae, beneficial soil microbes, use of flyash as soil ameliorant and carrier for agricultural microbials and their field application. Industrial scale process development for chromium VI removal from industrial effluents by waste microbial biomass from pharma industry.

Designed entrepreneurship development training modules in biofertilizer, mushroom cultivation, bioinformatics, genetic engineering, food testing, soil and fly ash testing, waste water and water testing, microbiological techniques, agri-business management. Establishment of IPR Cell and formalization of IPR Policy for TIET (2018).

Formalization of course curricula for starting B.Sc. Microbiology (1989), B-Tech. Biotechnology (2003), M-Tech. Biotechnology (2007) and M.Sc. Biotechnology (1999), Microbiology (2010), and Biochemistry (2014) and 5-year Integrated B.Sc.-M.Sc. Biotechnology (2012) and Joint B-Tech.-M.Sc. dual degree program (2018) with Tel Aviv University, Israel.

Isolation, characterization, and application of microorganisms for metal removal, dye decolorization, pyrene degradation, biowaste recycling, cellulose degradation, and ethanol and lactic acid production with process development from lab scale to industrial scale, nano-bioremediation of pesticides and nanoparticles as antimicrobial agents.
